Did you know that Tuesday 22nd September is In Town without My Car Day?

In Town without My Car Day is a European initiative that has spread to over 40 countries, based around the promotion of city centres for purposes other than thoroughfare.

The main focus for the campaign this year is to encourage the use of alternative forms of transport and travel and to raise awareness within the community of what is at stake with regards to long term mobility in towns and the risks connected with pollution.

In partnership with the Smarter Choices Team, Newcastle City Council has organised a series of events in Newcastle:

- Local bands playing at Central Station
- Marquee at Monument providing information on sustainable travel.

In attendance there will be:
- Energy Savings Trust
- Nexus
- Sustrans
- Be Air Aware
- Bus Operators
- Option C.

There will also be:
- Guided walks up to the top of Grey’s Monument
- School walking buses in Gosforth (Gosforth East Middle School, St Oswalds RC Primary School, Gosforth Park First School, Broadway East First School) from 3 Mile Inn and Asda car park.
- Cycling activity day at Ravenswood School, Heaton

If you would like more information on any activities above please do not hesitate to get in touch.

There is a leaflet attached which is available to your organisation free of charge, all you need to do is email Laura Fitzpatrick (Laura.Fitzpatrick@nexus.org.uk ) with your contact details and the quantities that you require. There are posters available too.
